HBO's Harry Potter reboot has already confirmed its young trio and several major adult roles, yet one question continues to dominate fan discussion: who will play Voldemort?

The answer, for now, appears to be more complicated than a simple casting announcement.

The first season will adapt 'The Philosopher's Stone', which means the Dark Lord is unlikely to appear in full physical form. In the original story, Voldemort is revealed only during Harry's confrontation with Professor Quirrell, when his face appears on the back of Quirrell's head.

According to reporting from EpicStream's coverage of Voldemort's Season 1 role, there has been no official announcement of a full casting for the character. However, insider Daniel Richtman has claimed that the production has already cast a voice actor for Voldemort.

That approach would align closely with the source material. Rather than introducing a fully formed Dark Lord from the outset, the series could gradually build his presence through voice and fragmented appearances before his physical return in later seasons.

As HBO plans to adapt one novel per season, Voldemort's complete on-screen return would not occur until 'The Goblet of Fire'. That timeline suggests viewers may not see a fully embodied Dark Lord for several years.

Even so, speculation around the role has intensified following comments made by Ralph Fiennes, who portrayed Voldemort in the original film series.

During a red carpet appearance, Fiennes appeared to suggest that the role may have already been cast. He then named Cillian Murphy as a 'very good choice' before expressing visible uncertainty about whether any official confirmation had been made.

As reported by ShortList's report on the Cillian Murphy rumours, the comment quickly circulated online. Murphy has long been a popular fan choice for Voldemort, largely due to his intense screen presence in projects such as 'Peaky Blinders' and his Oscar-winning role in 'Oppenheimer'.

However, there is no confirmation from HBO that Murphy has joined the cast. In fact,Murphy previously stated on the 'Happy Sad Confused' podcastthat he knew nothing about the role. He described Fiennes as 'an acting legend' and wished luck to whoever ultimately takes on the character.
