Sanju Samson achieved an unprecedented feat after guiding Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to a victory over Delhi Capitals (DC) on Tuesday (May 5) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi to hand the Men in Yellow's chances of reaching the playoffs a major boost. The 31-year-old made an unbeaten knock of 87 runs in 52 balls with seven boundaries and six maximums at a strike-rate of 167.31.

Samson won the Player of the Match (POTM) award for his match-winning knock. This is the second instance of him claiming the prize against DC. In the reverse fixture against the Axar Patel-led side at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on 11th April, Samson hit an unbeaten 56-ball 115 as they won the match by eight wickets.

Samson ended the season with 202 runs in two matches and was never dismissed. He is the first player over the 19 editions of the league to score over 200 runs in a season against the Capitals. The previous record for the most aggregate runs in a season against the one-time finalist was held by Ishan Kishan. However, his tally had come over four matches in 2020 when Mumbai Indians (MI) played them in two league stage matches as well as the first qualifier and final.
