Anew Rasmussen Reports surveyfinds most likely US voters say political violence is getting worse, and a majority say negative news media coverage of President Donald Trump likely inspired the latest assassination attempt against him.

Seventy-one percent (71%) say the problem of political violence in America is getting worse.

Eight percent (8%) say it is getting better, while seventeen percent (17%) say it is staying about the same.

An armed suspect was arrested April 25after attempting to rush into the White House Correspondents Dinner attended by Trump and top administration officials.

Sixty percent (60%) say it is likely that negative news media coverage of Trump inspired the assassination attempt, including forty-one percent (41%) who say it is very likely.

Twenty-nine percent (29%) say it is not likely, while eleven percent (11%) say they are not sure.

Seventy-three percent (73%) say the way most news media report about politics tends to make America more divided.

Eleven percent (11%) say it makes the country more united, while fifteen percent (15%) say they are not sure.

Among those who say the media are making America more divided, seventy-seven percent (77%) say it is likely negative news media coverage of Trump inspired the assassination attempt.
