Voting day was surely interesting for the entire India and its 5 poll-bound regions, but the one state that stole the most attention was West Bengal and itsAssembly Electionresults. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) coming into power after dethroning the long-time WB Chief Minister,Mamata Banerjee, and her All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) party is no small feat. Not only is this BJP’s first ever victory in Bengal, but it is also the change of power in the state after years. With that said, it makes sense why the entire nation is talking about the WB elections, including industrialist Harsh Goenka!
Soon after the results of the Bengal Assembly elections were declared, Goenka shared an interesting picture on his social media handle, which had a huge political undertone: “Post Bengal elections: enjoying jhalmuri.”
For those not aware, jhalmuri is a popular street snack in Bengal, made out of puffed rice and spices. Apart from being popular, the reason why jhalmuri was in the headlines before the elections was Prime Minister Narendra Modi casually enjoying the snack in Jhargram. The PM, during the election campaign in WB, had made headlines over eating jhalmuri from a small shop in Jhargram. As soon as Goenka shared his post, netizens were quick to connect the two.
The post went viral in an instant, pulling many reactions.
West Bengal, on the other hand, was one of the poll-bound states, along with a Union Territory: Assam, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Puducherry. For WB, the votings were held in two phases, while the results were announced on Monday, May 04. The state has 293 seats, where the BJP ended up winning with a majority, ultimately pushing the long-standing TMC out.
“Post Bengal elections: enjoying jhalmuri,” the post read.
The post was shared on X (formerly Twitter) by the handle ‘hvgoenka’. It was shared yesterday and pulled more than 85K views from people.

“Subtle as usual Sir..hahahaha..lol. Hope your post is seen by the right folks who can then comment if the ‘jhal’ in the jhalmuri is optimum or need a pinch more,” a user said in the comments section.
