Tensions in the Gulf have sharply escalated on May 4, with fresh attacks, missile interceptions, and naval clashes raising doubts about whether the fragile ceasefire between the US and Iran still holds.

The United Arab Emirates said its air defence systems engaged a barrage of Iranian attacks, including 12 ballistic missiles, three cruise missiles, and four drones. Authorities confirmed that three people were moderately injured.

In Oman, a residential building housing workers in Bukha was also hit, leaving two foreign nationals injured, damaging vehicles, and shattering nearby windows. Officials did not confirm the source of the strike and said investigations are ongoing.

Iran, however, stopped short of confirming responsibility. Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi warned that both the US and UAE should avoid being “dragged back into quagmire,” while an unnamed Iranian official claimed Tehran had “no plan” to target the UAE, blaming the incident on “US military adventurism.”

US President Donald Trump declined to confirm whether the ceasefire remains in place. Asked directly, he said, “I can’t tell you that,” adding that answering would make him appear “not smart enough to be president.”

Trump also issued a stark warning, saying Iranian forces would be “blown off the face of the Earth” if they targeted US ships, even as he claimed the war was “militarily… essentially over.”

Iran’s Araghchi pushed back, saying developments in Hormuz show “there’s no military solution to a political crisis.”

At sea, clashes intensified in the Strait of Hormuz. Adm. Brad Cooper of US Central Command said Iran launched cruise missiles, drones, and small boats targeting vessels under US protection.

US forces intercepted all threats andsank six Iranian small boats, though Iranian state media disputed those claims. Trump later said “seven small boats” were destroyed.

Despite the attacks, officials said no US vessels were hit, though a South Korean-operated cargo ship reported a fire.
