The2026 Met Galais officially here, and we are waiting with bated breath as the world’s biggest stars—including co-chairs Beyoncé, Nicole Kidman, and Venus Williams—gather at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
This year’s exhibit, “Costume Art,” places fashion on the same pedestal as fine art. From May 10, 2026 until January 10, 2027, the museum’s brand-new, almost 12,000-square-footCondé M. Nast Gallerieswill be filled with hundreds of pieces of art that center the dressed body, paired with thematically relevant fashions. In concert with the theme, the evening’s dress code, “Fashion is Art,” asks attendees to serve as something of a blank canvas themselves.
While thedress codeitself leaves plenty of room to the imagination, the exhibit’s sub-sections are sure to offer some guidance. Many may embrace the classical body in Hellenistic drapery, while others may opt to explore the anatomical body. We can imagine that, with an ongoing cultural fascination with naked dressing, many guests will get creative with paying homage to the nude body.
In addition to the evening’sco-chairs, a host of celebrities will also take to the carpet in their most artful fashions, including the host committee co-chairs Anthony Vaccarello and Zoë Kravitz, as well as Sabrina Carpenter, Doja Cat, Alex Consani, Lena Dunham, Paloma Elsesser, Lisa, Teyana Taylor, Lauren Wasser, A’ja Wilson, and Yseult.
