Mother’s Day traditions are as unique as the mothers they celebrate, but brunch is, without a doubt, one of the most quintessential ways to honor moms.
Whether it is breakfast in bed or dining out at your local brunch spot, the meal has essentially become synonymous with Mother’s Day.
But this year, seek out an option to make mom feel extra special by trying something new without necessarily ditching tradition. Here are some new recipes to spice up breakfast at home and make mom’s day as special as possible.
It’s like a scene out of a movie: a little kid sneaks into their mother’s room while she snoozes with an eye mask on, surprising her awake with a tray serving bacon, eggs, toast, orange juice and coffee. While it’s classic, it’s also cliche.
If you’re looking for a way to make breakfast at home more special without increasing the workload too much, opt for picking up her coffee order from her favorite local cafe, or pair the meal with a heartfelt note, gift or a floral bouquet.
If cooking isn’t your thing, it doesn’t have to be on this day (and maybe something the mom in your life will end up appreciating more!). In this case, pre-made foods may be the option for you.
Local grocery stores, like Uncle Giuseppe’s, North Shore Farms, H Mart, Iavarone Bros and Fiddleheads Food Co-op, or bakeries, like Marie Blachère Bakery & Café, Buttercooky Bakery & Café and St. Rocco’s Bakery, offer a diverse selection of pre-made breakfast items, from quiches and frittattas to baked goods. These can easily be picked up the night before so come Sunday morning, all you have to do is heat it up and assemble it beautifully on her plate.
If cooking is your thing, use this day as an opportunity to try something new that caters to mom’s palette.
If she’s got a sweet tooth, try out cinnamon roll pancakes. This recipe can easily be adapted to your go-to pancake recipe, even one that comes off the back of a Bisquick box.
To make them, prepare your pancake batter as normal. Then prepare a cinnamon filling mixture with one cup of brown sugar, half a stick of melted butter and two tablespoons of cinnamon. Pour your pancake batter into a circle on your griddle, and once you see bubbles rising to the surface, pipe your cinnamon mixture into a swirl (a squeeze bottle makes this easier). Flip to continue cooking, and top with icing (made with one cup of powdered sugar, 2 tablespoons of milk and a teaspoon of vanilla). Voila! You’ve got the perfect inception of pancakes and cinnamon rolls.
