Donald Trump did not mince words on Monday. Speaking to Fox News' Trey Yingst, the president issued one of his most direct threats yet toward Iran, warning that any attack on US vessels operating in the Strait of Hormuz would result in Iran being "blown off the face of the Earth."

The warning landed on a day when violence in and around the strait was already making headlines, with US forces reporting the elimination of Iranian fast boats and the broader ceasefire looking increasingly fragile.

Despite the tough talk, Trump also struck a more diplomatic note, saying he believed Iran had become "much more malleable" in ongoing peace negotiations. It was an unusual combination of maximum pressure and cautious optimism delivered in the same breath.

"Iran has taken some shots at unrelated Nations with respect to the Ship Movement, PROJECT FREEDOM, including a South Korean Cargo Ship. Perhaps it's time for South Korea to come and join the mission!" Trump wrote.

He also reported that seven Iranian fast boats had been shot down, describing them as essentially all Iran had left in the waterway. Beyond the South Korean vessel, Trump said there had been no damage to ships passing through the strait at that point.

He announced that Secretary of War Pete Hegseth and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Dan Caine would hold a press conference the following morning.

Note that Trump's Truth Social post cited seven boats while Cooper's statement referenced six. The discrepancy has not been publicly explained.
