Reels and videos are two content types that most Facebook users don’t joke with. These offerings give users a fast way to consume content. They also allow creators to reach wider audiences. As amazing as Facebook is, it isn’t without its issues. New reports indicate that the Facebook app is crashing for many users after opening Reels or videos. But understand that this issue doesn’t fully affect Reels.

The new issue behaves differently for many users today. According to some users, theFacebook app crashesentirely, giving an error message: “Something went wrong with Facebook. Facebook closed because this app has a bug”. Some users said the app crashes when opening comments.

AReddit userdescribing the issue said:“After repeated crashes, this strange message began appearing right after my phone updated unexpectedly.”

Looking at reports, it seems this issue started on the 27th April, 2026. As seen onDowndetector, it seems this issue is widespread as it affects thousands of people. With the graphics, we expect more people to report the issue in the coming days.

We tested this issue here at Insider Paper with different devices, including Galaxy S24 and S25 models, and a Pixel device. However, we didn’t experience the aforementioned issue when opening Reels or videos. While this issue may not be affecting all daily active users, Facebook still needs to roll out a quick fix since it affects thousands of users.

Most affected users are currently frustrated that the Facebook app is crashing when opening Reels or videos. The frustration comes from the fact that most basic troubleshooting steps they tried didn’t work. Some of these steps include clearing the cache, restarting devices, and force-stopping Facebook. This made many users believe the issue is a result of a server-side bug.

Some users mentioned thatreinstalling the Facebook Appcould stop the crashing issue when opening Reels or videos. But this is just a temporary fix, as they issue returns shortly for some users. If you’re lucky like some other users, reinstalling the app may give you a permanent fix.
