Three Indian nationals were injured after Iran launched missile and drone attacks on the United Arab Emirates on Monday, in a major escalation that has severely undermined the fragile ceasefire between Tehran and the United States. The United Arab Emirates said on Monday that Iran launched missile and drone attacks against the country, threatening to unravel the fragile ceasefire between the United States and Iran that took effect on April 8. Abu Dhabi’s Defence Ministry said the UAE’s air defense systems were actively intercepting incoming ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, and drones.
The ministry confirmed that air defenses had already downed several projectiles, including three “loitering munitions” over territorial waters, while another missile fell into the sea.Residents across the country reported hearing explosions as air defense systems engaged the incoming threats. Emergency phone alerts were sent out in Dubai and Abu Dhabi warning people to immediately seek shelter in secure buildings due to “potential missile threats.”
The reported Iranian attack marks the first time the UAE has activated its missile alert system since the ceasefire began. The White House has not yet issued a public response on whether the strikes would be considered a violation of the truce.
News of the attacks triggered an immediate reaction in global markets. Stock indices fell while oil prices rose sharply, as investors worried that renewed fighting could further disrupt energy supplies from the Persian Gulf, a critical chokepoint for global oil shipments.
The UAE sits on the southern edge of the Persian Gulf and plays a key strategic role in the region. Iran’s state media has not yet commented on or confirmed the reported attacks.
The development comes at a highly sensitive time, with President Trump scheduled to visit Beijing in the coming days and ongoing diplomatic efforts to stabilize the situation in the Middle East.
