New Delhi:The stunning electoral debut of actor-turned-politician Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), now the front-runner to form the government in Tamil Nadu, has put the spotlight firmly on political “startups” - a space where success stories are rare and “unicorns” rarer still.

In pulling off a potential first-election victory, TVK has joined an elite and limited club of parties that translated early momentum into immediate power - including the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), and the Telugu Desam Party (TDP).

Tamil Nadu Election Result 2026 Live Updates

As per the latest trends, TVK is ahead on 107 seats, where as AIADMK is leading on 55 seats and incumbent DMK on 71 seats. If the trends hold for another couple of hours, Vijay may emerged as the Neta number 1 of Tamil Nadu.

The AAP formed the Delhi government after its debut election in 2013 with Congress support, while the AGP came to power in Assam in 1985 soon after its formation, backed by successful Independents linked to the Assam movement. The TDP, founded by NT Rama Rao, stormed to power in Andhra Pradesh in 1983, winning a sweeping mandate within a year of its launch.

TVK’s performance now places it alongside these rare political outliers - parties that did not just disrupt but decisively captured power at the very first attempt.

For every such success, however, there are multiple political ventures that fail to convert buzz into ballots.

Just last year, Jan Suraaj, backed by political strategist Prashant Kishor, generated significant hype ahead of the Bihar polls. Many had predicted it could emerge as the next AAP.

However, the optimism proved misplaced, with the party failing to open its account across the 238 seats it contested.
