Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) HeadSunetra Pawarhas crossed 50,000 votes in the Baramati Assembly by-polls, taking a massive lead after round 6 of counting. Pawar is set for a record win in Baramati, a city in Pune district. According to the official data by the Election Commission of India (ECI), Sunetra Pawar has secured a total of 53,478 votes by round 6. Till the previous rounds, she had 44,796 votes and added 8,682 votes in the latest round alone.

Till now, no candidate has crossed even 300 votes, pointing to her victory and the dominance she holds in the state. While other candidates, RY Ghutukade of the New Rashtriya Samaj Party, have received 228 votes. Independent candidate Viraj Mahadev Shinde has secured 138 votes. Karuna Munde has 68 votes, while Abhijit Bichukale has 65 votes.

Counting began at 8 AM at the State Warehousing Corporation centre in Baramati under tight security on Monday, with around 300 officials deployed for security. With each passing round, Pawar's lead grew sharply, from 6,500 votes after the first round to bagging over 50,000 votes in the latest round.

A voter turnout of 58.27 per cent was recorded in the Baramati assembly constituency located in Pune district.

The seat fell vacant following the death of then Deputy Chief Minister and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) president Ajit Pawar in a plane crash on January 28, necessitating the bypoll.

His wife Sunetra Pawar, contesting her first assembly poll, is set to win the seat with a huge margin over her rivals, riding a sympathy wave and given her family’s strong hold on the constituency. No major political party has fielded candidates against her.

The Maharashtra assembly has 288 seats. The ruling Mahayuti alliance has 235 seats (BJP-132, Shiv Sena-57, NCP Ajit-41, allies-5), while the Opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi combine has 50 seats (Shiv Sena UBT-20, Congress-16, NCP SP-10, others-4)
