Jannik Sinner continued his dream run of form and secured the maiden Madrid Open title of his career after beating Alexander Zverev in a one-sided summit clash on Sunday (May 3) at the Estadio Manolo Santana at the Caja Magica in Madrid. The Italian dominated the German and won the game in straight sets and dropped just three games in the match. The World No.1 won the match by a 6-1, 6-2 margin in a match that lasted just 57 minutes.

The Italian has won the Madrid Open for the first time in his career. Overall, this marks the 9th victory in an ATP Masters 1000 tournament for Sinner in his career.

Sinner has now won five consecutive ATP Masters 1000 titles, having also won the 2025 Paris Masters title and later securing victory in the 2026 editions of the Indian Wells, Miami, and Monte Carlo Open. The 24-year-old is the first player to achieve this incredible feat. Previously, there were four instances of a player winning four consecutive titles at this level.

Meanwhile, Sinner has now eight of the nine ATP Masters 1000 titles and is only the second player to achieve the feat. Only Djokovic has done better than the 24-year-old. The 24-time Grand Slam champion has won all nine competitions in this format and is the only player in history to achieve the feat. Sinner has gone past Andy Murray, Roger Federer, and Andre Agassi, who had all won seven competitions in their careers.

The Italian Open is the only competition Sinner has not won in his career so far. He can join Djokovic by completing the set later this month when the tournament's 2026 edition takes place in Rome from May 4 to 17.

Sinner has now started the season with 22 victories in a row, which is the third-best streak after Djokovic (31 in 2011, 25 in 2015). He has won 28 ATP Masters 1000 matches in a row, which is only bettered by Federer (29) and Djokovic (30 and 31).

Meanwhile, Sinner has secured the second-quickest victory in an ATP Masters 1000 final without a retirement . Only Marat Safin's 6-2, 6-3 win over Harel Levy in the 2000 Canada Masters (54 minutes) was quicker.
