California has landed a spot in America’s top 10 colleges for Greek life, with the University of Southern California ranking No. 7 in a new 2026 list based on student and alumni reviews.
The table, compiled by college ranking platform Niche, evaluates campuses across the countryusing firsthand feedback from students about their experiences in fraternities and sororities.
While Southern schools dominate the top of the list, USC stands out asCalifornia’s lone representative, highlighting both the size and influence of Greek life in Los Angeles.
At the top of the rankings is Florida State University, followed by Tulane University at No. 2 and University of Alabama at No. 3 — schools long known for deeply embedded Greek traditions and large-scale participation.
USC’s inclusion reflects its massive Greek system, which includes more than 35 to 40 recognized fraternities and sororities spanning five governing councils, such as the Interfraternity Council (IFC), Panhellenic Council (PHC), and Multicultural Greek Council (MGC).
Altogether, more than 2,200 students are involved in Greek life on campus.
Popular organizations include nationally recognized fraternities like TKE, Pike, and Sigma Chi, as well as sororities such as Kappa Kappa Gamma, Delta Gamma, and Pi Beta Phi — all of which are known for strong campus engagement and alumni networks.
However, USC’s Greek system has not been without controversy.
In August 2022, six USC fraternities disaffiliated from the university following the implementation of strict safety regulations.
Those rules — which included tighter recruitment oversight and party restrictions — came in response to numerous allegations of sexual assault and drink spiking reported in 2021.
