The fourth grade classrooms at Herricks’ Searingtown Elementary School were transformed into an immersive educational experience on April 24 as students prepared for their upcoming New York State math assessments. The themed Disney Day turned standard test preparation into a high-energy learning adventure.
During the daylong event, students rotated through classrooms redesigned to represent Disney theme parks and even participated in a simulated “Disney Cruise” to the Bahamas. These transformations provided the backdrop for a comprehensive review of essential fourth grade curriculum standards, including multiplication, division, fractions, area, perimeter and geometry.
The Searingtown Scotties engaged with these mathematical concepts by virtually “riding” park attractions, participating in a parade and watching a simulated fireworks show. By integrating academic rigor with interactive play, the fourth grade team created an environment where students could sharpen their skills alongside their classmates in a memorable way.
This special event highlights the district’s commitment to experiential learning, using creative themes to ensure students remain engaged and confident as they approach year-end academic milestones.
