The results of the Assembly elections in West Bengal, Assam, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Puducherry will be declared on May 4, Monday. Trends are expected to emerge by the afternoon, with final results likely by evening, following the standard counting process that begins with postal ballots and is followed by votes recorded in Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs).
In Tamil Nadu, the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) is aiming for a second consecutive term, while the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) is looking to stage a comeback backed by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). TVK's Vijay is also emerging as an X factor.
In Kerala, the contest is primarily between the ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF) and the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF). Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan is seeking to defy the state’s long-standing trend of alternating governments every five years. He had returned to power in 2021, breaking that pattern for the first time in decades.
InAssam, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is aiming to secure another term for the BJP-led government, facing opposition from Congress.
Meanwhile, West Bengal will be a tightly watched contest between the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) and the BJP, which is seeking to wrest control of the state.

Counting begins at 8 AM with postal ballots. Service voters, election duty staff, and people with disabilities use postal ballots. These votes are counted under the direct supervision of the RO. Counting of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) starts 30 minutes after the commencement of Postal Ballot counting, even if all Postal Ballots have not been counted.
However, results for the Falta seat in West Bengal, where repolling has been ordered, will be out on May 24.
As counting progresses in multiple rounds, early trends begin to emerge by 9 to 9.30 AM. At the end of each counting round, the results from 14 EVMs are announced. A clearer usually develops by the afternoon.
Results are declared once all rounds, including postal ballots and EVM tallies, are completed and verified.
