Netflix's cosy small-town drama is officially returning. This time, the focus is firmly on what married life really looks like for Mel and Jack.Virgin RiverSeason 7 premieres on Thursday 12 March 2026, with the newly released trailer and first-look images teasing honeymoon plans, emotional crossroads and serious conversations about starting a family.

The update was confirmed byNetflixon 9 February, with additional details reported byEntertainment Weeklyon 12 February. Based on Robyn Carr's bestselling novels, the series continues to follow nurse and midwife Mel Monroe (Alexandra Breckenridge) and bar owner Jack Sheridan (Martin Henderson) as they build a life together in Northern California.

After six seasons of obstacles, heartbreak and reconciliation, the pair finally tied the knot. But Season 7 makes it clear their story is evolving rather than concluding.

Showrunner Patrick Sean Smith previously hinted at the couple's ongoing journey, telling Tudum: 'There's a lot more to go here with these characters.'

The official trailer places Mel and Jack at the emotional centre of the new season. Parenthood, a long-standing dream for the couple, appears to move closer to reality.

Season 7 explores the newlyweds' efforts to become parents, including a potential adoption storyline involving Marley (Rachel Drance). Breckenridge confirmed the arc will continue, telling the outlet: 'The storyline with Marley and the baby does not disappear in season 7. It's pretty heavily featured. I can't tell you what happens with it, but I can tell you that it doesn't disappear. It's still there, and it's something that me and Jack have to navigate through. It brings stuff up, of course'.

The trailer also revisits a lingering Season 6 cliffhanger involving Jack. Breckenridge added: 'I do know [what makes him gasp]. But I can't tell you. It's too big of a thing. I couldn't possibly'.

Beyond the baby storyline, the trailer closes on a romantic moment. Sitting in bed, Mel spins a globe and says their honeymoon destination will be wherever her finger lands. Just as it is about to settle, the screen cuts to black, leaving viewers guessing.

While Mel and Jack's marriage anchors the season, the wider community remains as eventful as ever.

The trailer hints at Doc's efforts to restore trust: 'Some of you had lost faith in me, but being your doctor is personal to me', he says in the preview.
