A plane has crashed into a hangar at Parafield Airport in Adelaide’s north in Australia, causing a massive fire and plumes of smoke. It's believed the small plane hit the hanger as it was attempting to land. Officials have not confirmed how many people were on board at the time.

One listener told 891 ABC Adelaide: " It looks like a large fire in an aeroplane hangar. I've seen multiple fire trucks going through — this is probably the fifth one now, and multiple emergency services heading out there. It's pretty big."

South Australia Police said the area has been evacuated as emergency services deal with the crash.

A spokesperson said: "Please avoid the area if possible."

A picture shared on social media shows smoke billowing from the hangar.

Today's crash is the second at Parafield Airport this year.

In January, a learner pilot nosedived into the runway and caused a fire. They were taking off from the airport at the time.

The plane reportedly crashed into the hangar while it tried to land at the airport in Adelaide.

It is unknown exactly how many people were on board at the time.
