Chennai:The voting for the 234 seats for theTamil NaduAssembly elections 2026 was held in a single phase on April 23. The state recorded a voter turnout of over 84 per cent. After the voting, the entire focus has been shifted to exit polls. They are indicators about which alliance could form the government before the counting begins.

These exit polls for Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Assam, Kerala, and Puducherry will be released only after the second round of voting for the West Bengal polls ends at around 6:30 pm, as per the Election Commission's guidelines. The votes will be counted on May 4 for all the four states and the union territory.

MK Stalin is seeking the second consecutive term as the chief minister of the state. The main contest will be between the ruling DMK-led Secular Progressive Alliance (SPA) and the AIADMK and the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA). Apart from the SPA and NDA, other prominent parties that can dent vote share are Thamizhaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK)- led by superstar Joseph Vijay, and Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK)- led by Seeman. Notably, Vijay's entry into Tamil Nadu politics could play the role of a spoilsport for the DMK and the AIADMK.

The accuracy of exit polls is always debatable. However, in 2021, the polls' predictions were bang on. The poll of polls predicted 160 seats for the DMK-led alliance and around 75 seats for the then-ruling party, AIADMK.
