Marco Rubio, the secretary of state andPresident Donald Trump’s national security adviser, has done a “brilliant job” in staying out of the administration’s negotiations with Iran that will eventually end with the U.S. making concessions to Tehran and damage his future presidential run, John Mearsheimer, the University of Chicago professor, said in an interview Tuesday.
“He fully understands, I am sure, that he just does not want to get involved, because in the end, we're going to lose, and the lobby and Israel itself are going to be outraged at any compromise we make. And whoever actually makes those compromises is going to pay a heavy political price.”
Mearsheimertold Judge Andrew Napolitano’s Judging Freedomthat Rubio has stayed away from the negotiations in Islamabad (he attended a UFC fight with Trump instead) because he (and Vance) understand that if they get involved in these negotiations, they will have to make concessions because Iran will not give up the Strait of Hormuz.
“We’ve basically lost this war,”he said.“If we make those concessions, and you’re the point-person who made those concessions, you’re going to take a lot of heat from the Israel lobby.”
