As West Bengal votes in the second and final phase ofassembly elections, TMC MP Mahua Moitra casts her vote on Wednesday and hit out at the BJP for "making a joke" of democracy. Speaking to reporters, Moitra exuded confidence of her party's victory in the polls, discussing the work done by the Mamata Banerjee-led government on the ground.
"The BJP has made a joke of democracy. The people of Bengal will give them a befitting reply. In the first phase, they already have. And it will happen again in the second phase. For 12 years, Modi government is there. And this area and assemblies are completely isolated. When Mamata Banerjee was the railway minister, she pressed for this region in the budget. But nothing has happened. For 12 years they are in power, and Ashwini Vaishnaw ji is there for years. They only give a lollipop but no work," said Mahua Moitra.
West Bengal is voting in the final phase of assembly elections on Wednesday, with 142 seats at stake across seven districts that form the political core of the state. The outcome will indicate whether the ruling Trinamool Congress can retain its dominance in south Bengal or if the Bharatiya Janata Party can make inroads into the region.
The first phase of elections to the 294-member West Bengal assembly was held on April 23 and votes will be counted on May 4.
