Kookmin University is actively engaging in industry-academia collaboration to develop new technologies with businesses and research institutes.
Last week, the university and GE Aerospace, a U.S. aircraft engine manufacturer, co-hosted a seminar to discuss ways of sharing research and development (R&D) trends and strengthening cooperation among corporations, universities and research institutes.
The university said more than 20 professors, researchers and military officials participated in the “2026 KMU x GE Aerospace Technical Seminar,” held at its campus in northern Seoul on April 22.
The university noted that it has maintained a close cooperative relationship with GE Aerospace since signing a memorandum of understanding on research collaboration related to unmanned aerial vehicle systems in 2018.
From 2021 to 2024, the two sides carried out a joint project on the development of a quantum security-integrated avionics suite, building the foundation for collaborative research in the field.

The seminar provided an opportunity for participants to share research experiences and the latest information on rapidly evolving technologies such as artificial intelligence, autonomous driving, quantum technology and avionics for manned-unmanned teaming systems, according to a university official.
The Defense Uncrewed Systems R&D Center affiliated with the university organized the event as part of efforts to strengthen collaboration with research institutes, defense agencies, and businesses, the official added.
The seminar began with welcoming remarks by Sohn Jin-shik, general director of the Kookmin University Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation, who concurrently serves as the university’s vice president for planning.
During the event, a research team from GE Aerospace delivered presentations on avionics systems and the Modular Open System Approach, a technical and business strategy for designing affordable and adaptable systems.
