Dancer’s father died after revealing on Facebook that he was undergoing treatment for an undisclosed illness

A Hong Kong dancer left paralysed after being struck by a giant screen during a 2022 concert by popular boy band Mirror has clarified that neither he nor his family had raised any funds after the death of his pastor father.

Reminding his supporters to beware of scammers, Mo Li Kai-yin said in an Instagram post on Tuesday that he was grateful for the concern shown in recent days over online reports about his family, following the death of his father, Reverend Derek Li Shing-lam.

But he added: “We as a family have not used the recent matter to raise funds through any organisations.”

“I urge all kind‑hearted people: if you come across articles that include fundraising information from certain organisations, please check carefully who the recipient is. Thank you for your care.”

The death of the dancer’s father, who spent years advocating for his 31-year-old son after the accident that shocked the city, was announced on Saturday.

About a week earlier, the elder Li revealed on his Facebook page that he was undergoing treatment for an undisclosed illness.
