Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer welcomedKing Charles IIIto Capitol Hill Tuesday with a large bandage covering about half his forehead.
The New York Democrat was first seen with the bandage – and a small abrasion just below it – Monday on the Senate floor.Thesenatorsaid he suffered the wound after a late-night encounter with an open door.
“Closet door was open late at night. It met my forehead,” Schumer (D-NY) told reporters.
The run-in with a door didn’t appear to affect the senator at all.
Ahead of the King’s speech, Schumer called it a “great honor” to welcome “his majesty” to the US Capitol Building.
“It has been thirty-five years since a British monarch addressed the elected representatives of the American people — the world has changed dramatically, but in many ways, the same tests remain before us,” the Democratic leader said.
“The visit of King Charles III should serve as a reminder to the President of the United States and to every elected official in this country: friends and allies matter,” he added.
Schumer, 75, has had afew minor health incidentsover the past decade.
He was briefly hospitalized last year and treated for dehydration after becoming lightheaded while working out on a stationary bike in the Senate gym.
The senator was also diagnosed with pneumonia in 2016 and tested positive for COVID-19 in 2022, dealing with minor symptoms at the time.
