The long-brewing legal fight between Elon Musk and OpenAI has now officially entered one of its most dramatic phases. What started as a public feud filled with social media jabs and accusations is now heading into a federal courtroom in Oakland, California. The Tesla chief has accused Sam Altman and other executives at the San Francisco-based AI giant of financially benefiting from the company’s shift away from its original nonprofit mission. And now, with a jury finally selected, the real showdown begins. Keep on reading to know everything.

Jury Selected Despite Strong Opinions

As per The Verge, jury selection was anything but smooth. Some potential jurors reportedly made their feelings about Musk very clear. One allegedly called him a “greedy, racist, homophobic piece of garbage,” while others referred to the SpaceX founder as a “world-class jerk.” Unsurprisingly, Musk’s legal team attempted to have these jurors removed. However, Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers reportedly rejected the request. “The reality is that people don’t like him. Many people don’t like him, but that doesn’t mean that Americans nevertheless can’t have integrity for the judicial process,” the judge said. A panel of nine jurors was ultimately chosen.

Elon Musk And Sam Altman Face Off In Court: What The OpenAI Lawsuit Means

According to Wired, the final jury includes a diverse mix of individuals, including a painter, psychiatrist and a former Lockheed Martin employee. Despite their personal views on Musk, all jurors reportedly assured the court that they could remain neutral and decide the case based on facts rather than emotions. That’s easier said than done when one of the world’s most polarising billionaires is involved.

Elon Musk Calls Out OpenAI Bosses: 'Scam Altman, Greg Stockman Stole A Charity'

Even before the case formally began, the Executive Chairman at X had already turned up the heat. In a recent post on X, Musk referred to Sam Altman as “scam Altman” and called OpenAI president Greg Brockman “Greg Stockman.” The tech mogul accused both executives of “stealing a charity” and personally profiting from the ChatGPT-maker’s transition from a nonprofit organisation to a for-profit Public Benefit Corporation (PBC). At the heart of the lawsuit is Musk’s claim that the US-based AI giant abandoned its founding mission to benefit humanity and instead shifted toward financial gain.
