Northwell Health held a ribbon-cutting ceremony Friday, April 17, to debut a new 17,000-square-foot pediatric specialty hub, bringing world-class orthopedic surgery and urology services to a single location.

Located at 1111 Marcus Ave., the facility is situated down the block from Cohen Children’s Medical Center. The suite features 26 exam rooms and is equipped with advanced technology, including three X-ray rooms with state-of-the-art EOS imaging, two ultrasound rooms and a procedure room.

The center is co-located with the Cohen Children’s Heart Center and the Department of Pediatric Surgery’s ambulatory offices, creating a multidisciplinary destination for surgical excellence.

“This new suite is a key part of our strategic vision for growth, providing families with access to world-class pediatric care that is both comprehensive and close to home,” said Jon Sendach, executive vice president and president of Northwell’s Central Market. “This facility is a testament to our commitment to raising the health of the communities we serve.”

The facility will be the new home for several of the nation’s top specialists, including Dr. Aseem Shukla, chief of pediatric urology at Cohen Children’s Medical Center and vice president of the pediatric urology service line at Northwell Health.

Shukla, an expert in robotic surgery, will work with Dr. Lane Palmer, chief of pediatric urology at North Shore University Hospital and president of the American Urological Association, to provide care for cases ranging from basic to complex.

“This new facility represents the future of pediatric specialty care,” said Dr. Annemarie Stroustrup, chair and senior vice president of the pediatric service line at Northwell Health. “We are creating environments where our top specialists can collaborate seamlessly, which leads to better, more integrated diagnoses and treatment plans for our patients. Our goal is to ensure that every child has access to the highest level of care, and this facility is a significant step forward in making that a reality for families in our community.”

The hub also serves as the new location for Dr. Vishal Sarwahi, chief of pediatric orthopedics and head of the Center for Minimally Invasive Scoliosis Surgery at Cohen Children’s Medical Center, and Dr. Terry Amaral, co-chief of pediatric orthopedics and an expert in complex reconstructive surgery.

“By bringing our pediatric orthopedic surgery and urology teams under one roof with our colleagues in pediatric cardiology and general surgery, we are streamlining the care process for our young patients,” said Dr. Jose Prince, senior vice president of children’s surgery and pediatric surgeon-in-chief at Northwell Health. “For a family navigating a complex medical journey, being able to see multiple specialists in one visit is invaluable.”

The outpatient facility maintains the patient-first philosophy of the comprehensive care provided at the children’s hospital across the street.
