Authorities in Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir have initiated a probe after a viral video surfaced on social media claiming that posters featuring Pakistan’s Army Chief Asim Munir and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif were pasted in the area. The clip, which spread rapidly online, showed a poster being put up at an unidentified location, raising concerns over possible attempts to trigger panic or disturb public order.
According to police officials, the video included geo-tagging that pointed to a possible location in the Pul Doda area, near a bridge in what is locally referred to as the Nepali area. However, authorities have clarified that no such posters have been found on the ground so far, and the video remains unverified.
Krishan Rattan said the matter is being examined carefully and that the authenticity of the video will only be established after a detailed investigation. “A short video clip went viral showing a poster being pasted… the truth will be confirmed after a thorough probe,” he said, indicating that officials are not ruling out the possibility of manipulated or misleading content.
Senior Superintendent of Police Kartik Shrotriya confirmed that an FIR has been registered at Police Station Doda under FIR No. 95/2026. He said police acted promptly after the video came to light and that efforts are underway to identify those responsible for creating or circulating the clip.
Officials also said they are examining whether the footage is original or has been digitally altered, including the possibility of AI-generated visuals. The absence of any physical evidence at the suspected location has further strengthened the focus on forensic verification of the video.
The incident comes at a time when Doda has seen a renewed focus in the security grid due to a resurgence of militant activity in parts of the Jammu region. After a relatively calm period, the district has witnessed multiple attacks since 2024, with security forces intensifying operations in forested and mountainous areas.
Security agencies have noted that militant groups are increasingly operating in smaller, well-trained units, using advanced weaponry and exploiting the difficult terrain spanning Doda, Kishtwar, and adjoining regions. Ongoing operations by the Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police have focused on areas such as Dessa forests and the Chattargalla pass.
For now, the investigation remains at an early stage. Police have urged the public not to circulate unverified content and said further details will be shared once the authenticity of the video and its origin are conclusively established.
