Students staged a protest at Jamia Millia Islamia on Tuesday against an event linked to the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). As the protest began, security was increased around the campus, with Delhi Police personnel deployed at main entry points.

The students gathered to oppose the programme, which was reportedly being organised inside the university’s engineering department. They raised slogans and demanded that the event be cancelled, saying it was not suitable for a central university campus.

So far, the university administration has not issued any official statement on the issue.

The Students' Federation of India (SFI) unit at Jamia also objected to the event. It said the programme was part of ‘Yuva Kumbh’ to mark 100 years of the RSS. In a statement issued on Monday, SFI said giving permission for the event was a “direct provocation” and raised concerns about the safety and dignity of minority students.

"SFI Jamia along with AISA Jamia, NSUI jamia, AIRSO, DISCC, Fraternity Movement and other student organisations protesting against Yuva Kumbh, an RSS centenary event outside the FET Auditorium, JMI. The event is now happening and is being attended by the university admin, " SFI wrote in an X post.

The student group has demanded that the university immediately withdraw permission for the programme.
