Recent photographs of Donald Trump with the UK’s King Charles III have sparked online discussion after observers noticed discolouration on the US President’s left hand. The Royal Family members are on a US visit, and Trump posed with First Lady Melania, alongside Charles, and his wife, Queen Camilla. Notably, Trump's right hand has shown discolouration for some time now, which has prompted many to enquire about the President's health. However, the White House and Trump himself have asserted that all is well with the Republican Commander in Chief.

“Trump's right hand has been in bad shape for a long time now, but this picture taken today shows discolouration on the back of his left hand," independent journalist Aaron Rupar wrote on X.

Experts emphasize that photographs can exaggerate or distort physical features. Several non-medical factors can influence how hands appear in images:

“When visual cues like swelling or discoloration in the hands are noticed in photographs, it’s important to approach them with caution, as images don’t always reflect clinical reality. From a medical perspective, such appearances can sometimes be linked to temporary fluid shifts in the body, which may occur due to diet, travel, or prolonged periods of standing or sitting,” said Dr. Manas Chatterjee, Senior Consultant Physician, Kailash Hospital.

"Temporary fluid retention is one possibility, especially with heat, salt intake, or even long periods of inactivity. It can also be seen with certain medications. In other situations, it may relate to joint or soft tissue conditions, or less commonly, circulation or metabolic concerns. That said, appearances can be misleading - lighting, angle, or even how the hand is positioned can exaggerate this. Without a clinical history and examination, it remains purely speculative," said Dr. PC Gupta, Clinical Director and HOD – Vascular and Endovascular Surgery at CARE Hospitals.

While many causes are harmless, persistent or severe symptoms may require medical attention. Warning signs include:
