Actor Soha Ali Khan has sparked an important health conversation after revealing that she is genetically predisposed to heart disease. Despite maintaining healthy lifestyle habits and good cholesterol levels, she shared that she must keep her cholesterol “even lower than normal” due to her genetic risk.

“I just did my blood test. My LDL, which is the bad cholesterol, is good; it is low, and HDL, which is the good cholesterol, is high, which is good, but I have a gene that is genetically predisposed to heart disease. I have to keep my cholesterol even lower than normal. But I have always been into eating healthy,” she told chefs Ranveer Brar and Garima Arora on her YouTube podcast.

Soha’s disclosure highlights a critical truth: heart disease risk is not just about lifestyle but can also be written in your genes.

Being genetically predisposed means a person carries inherited traits that increase their likelihood of developing cardiovascular conditions. Even with normal test results, individuals may still face elevated risk.

Soha explained that her HDL – the good cholesterol- is high. This means that while her LDL or low-density lipoprotein - often known as “bad cholesterol”, is controlled, and HDL is at healthy levels, extra vigilance is still necessary.
