Luka Doncic’slegal case with his ex-fiancéemight have just provided a clue into when the Lakers star plans to return from his hamstring injury.
A new court filing, obtained by The California Post on Monday, shows Doncic andhis famed attorney, Laura Wasser, agreed to a request to push a hearing date in his child custody battle with Anamaria Goltes until later this summer. The hearing had originally been slated for May 14.
Should the Lakers finish off the Rockets in their playoff-opening series, their next matchup against either the Suns or the Thunder would be scheduled into the first weeks of May.
A healthy Doncic who intended to play in Los Angeles’ next series would have a far more difficult time making the proceedings than an injured one with no plans to suit up.
Doncic and Wasser did not provide a reason for being OK with the rescheduling. However, they put their stamp of approval on over 10 other potential dates — and all them were for June 18 and beyond (Game 7 of the NBA Finals is booked for June 19).
The court ultimately postponed the issue until Aug. 14, records show.
The hearing is an important one — a judge is expected to rule on whether or not Goltes’ petition for child support from the 27-year-old NBA player should be thrown out.
In a request for order to quash and/or dismiss Goltes’ petition, Wasser wrote “Slovenia is the appropriate forum for adjudication of this dispute,” stating none of the parties live in California.
She added that she believed Goltes’ “California Petition is a clear attempt to forum shop and avail herself of the generous amounts of child support for which California is well-known.”
Wasser also claimed Doncic had previously filed a “Family Law action” in February in Slovenia to address the situation.
