A Long Beach man was arrested after allegedly breaking into a home in East Hills, assaulting a woman and violating a court-issued order of protection, Nassau County police said.
Officers responded to a 911 call at a residence on Canterbury Lane in East Hills at about 5:28 p.m. Saturday, April 25, according to detectives.
Investigators said the suspect, identified as 43-year-old Shawn Morgenroth, unlawfully entered the home of a 39-year-old woman without permission. Once inside, the two became involved in a verbal dispute that escalated, they said.
Police said Morgenroth forcibly took the victim’s cellphone and prevented her from leaving the residence. The confrontation turned physical, and he allegedly pushed the woman down a flight of stairs, causing injuries.
Responding officers later found Morgenroth in the basement, where authorities said he was holding a metal object in a threatening manner. Officers used an electronic control device to subdue him and take him into custody.
Both the victim and Morgenroth were taken to local hospitals for evaluation and treatment.
Further investigation determined that Morgenroth had violated an active order of protection, police said.
He faces multiple charges, including burglary, robbery, assault, aggravated criminal contempt, unlawful imprisonment, criminal mischief and criminal possession of a weapon, according to police.
Morgenroth will be arraigned once he is medically cleared, police said.
