Self-governance is nearly impossible. The fact we’ve survived for 250 years is miraculous. Representative government calls on public servants to prioritize policies that protect citizens. When selfish impulses erode the general welfare the whole idea of self-governance is destroyed, ushing in The Mob. When The Mob prevails everyone suffers, even those who promote The Mob. Eventually, liberty dies, the Republic disintegrates and dictatorship takes root.
The entire structure depends on the selflessness of officials. It also relies on the rule of law, honest debate, fair elections and a certain decorum. If We the People do not have these things operating, we do not have self-government, putting liberty at serious risk, and worse. The more we hear vicious speech, the more we see violent action, murder by mouth. The more we slander, insult and humiliate one another, the more we strangle the life out of this Republic. The structure is stressed to the breaking point.
It was impossible for Titanic to slow and steer clear of the iceberg, and so it may be with America. We are going too fast and we are on the wrong heading.
Evidence of a growing clash in government was observed yesterday in a hearing by the House Judiciary Committee. The hearing was called to focus on the Epstein case and on law enforcement, principles and practices. It quickly devolved into a brass-knuckle mosh pit.
The Attorney General was grilled, denigrated and shouted down for hours. AG Pam Bondi held her ground, fighting back against one venomous attack after another. Fact-based discourse gave way to outright lying on the Left.
In the main, Republican members comported themselves professionally while Democrats attempted to shred the AG. It was tragic to see Representatives knife Bondi over and over, without conscience, as if the law of the jungle has taken over. It was a lynch mob. As with the mob in Minneapolis, paid agitators attacked anything that moved to forward the cause of Mohammed and Marx.
The clock is ticking. If we do not get back tohonest, respectful doings in our private and public lives, we will soon be governed by The Mob.
On that day the miracle will end, thanks to pride, presumption and politics.
