A tragic SouthMumbaiincident shocks locals as four members of a single family lose their lives. The deaths are suspected to be the result of severe food poisoning, occurring shortly after the family consumed watermelon late at night at their home in the Pydhonie area.

On the night of April 25, when 40-year-old Abdullah Dokadia and his 35-year-old wife, Nasreen, hosted a dinner for nine relatives. After the guests had departed, the couple and their two daughters, 16-year-old Aisha and 13-year-old Zainab, reportedly shared a watermelon between 1:00 AM and 1:30 AM. By the following morning, all four family members began experiencing severe symptoms, including continuous vomiting and intense abdominal pain.

Despite seeking initial treatment from a local doctor, their conditions rapidly deteriorated. They were eventually rushed to JJ Hospital, but sadly, all four died due to illness. The youngest daughter, Zainab, passed away first on Sunday morning, followed by her father later that day. The mother and the elder daughter died shortly after. The sudden nature of the deaths has prompted a deep investigation by local authorities.

The JJ Marg Police have registered a case of Accidental Death and are working to determine the exact cause of the tragedy. While the family had consumed biryani earlier in the evening, investigators are focusing on the watermelon consumed just before the symptoms appeared. Samples of the food have been sent for forensic testing to check for chemical contamination, pesticides, or extreme bacterial growth that could lead to such a fatal outcome.

In a similar incident, a seven-year-old child died and 18 others fell ill in Jharkhand’s Giridih after reportedly eating contaminated golgappa and chaat from a street vendor. Authorities have launched an investigation.

The incident highlights the importance of food safety, especially in summer when food spoils quickly. Experts advise washing fruits like watermelons before cutting, refrigerating cut fruit, and avoiding spoiled or unhygienic produce.
