Christopher Zublionis has been appointed as the new Plainedge School District superintendent after the district’s previous superintendent stepped down in September 2025.
“We are thrilled to share that effective July 1, 2026, our new superintendent of schools will be Dr. Christopher R. Zublionis, Ed.D. Zublionis was selected following a comprehensive, seven-month national search process and with the input not only of each of the district’s collective bargaining units but also the community itself through a series of stakeholder engagement sessions and surveys,” the district Board of Education wrote in a letter sent to the community on Tuesday, April 21.
Edward Salina Jr.served as Plainedge’s superintendent for 14 years until he announced his resignation, which was accepted by the district’s board of education on Sept. 12.
Salinahad hosted the media at the district’s high school to unveil its state-of-the-art security technology weeks before his resignation.
He had been given one of the highest honors for a superintendent in the state last year, earning the Superintendent of the Year 2024 award by theNew York State Association for Computers and Technologies in Education.
The board had appointed Carol Muscarella, a longtime principal in the district, to replace Salina as superintendent.
Zublionis currently serves as the North Shore Central School District superintendent, and he has nearly three decades of educational experience. He worked as a Social Studies director, building principal and assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction before becoming North Shore’s superintendent.
He also previously worked in the West Babylon and Syosset School Districts as a teacher, baseball coach, and union building representative.
Zublionis earned his Doctor of Education in Curriculum and Instruction and a Master of Arts in Social Studies Education from Teachers College, Columbia University.
