The wooden spoon clash of the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL) between the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) saw the first super over of the tournament in the 19th edition after a roller-coaster clash. However, the Knight Riders held their nerve to win the Super Over and register their second win of the tournament to climb to the eighth spot in the table, while the Super Giants went down to 10th place. However, a controversy has erupted on social media after a clip went viral, claiming that LSG were given only four runs while hitting a six.

The clip that has quickly spread around the internet is from the 12th over of LSG's run chase, where Rishabh Pant smashed Kartik Tyagi for a boundary on the first ball of the over. The Lucknow-based team's skipper smashed a slower delivery over fine-leg after shuffling towards the off-stump.

While the umpire immediately signaled a boundary, the broadcaster's graphic showed the distance for a six (63m in this case), which has led to the claim.

With the match ending in a tie, LSG would have won the game if the extra two runs were given, making the incident a serious issue.

The reality is the claim being made by fans on the internet is wrong, and the right decision was made. A closer look at the replays shows that the ball bounced just ahead of the boundary line. The boundary was only given after being checked by the third umpire. One can assume that the broadcaster's graphic was a mistake.

It is worth noting that the LSG dugout was just behind where the ball went, and if a wrong decision was made, they would have noticed it being so close to the spot and lodged a complaint.

The LSG-KKR clash saw several major controversies with the umpires under the scanner. In KKR's innings, Angkrish Raghuvansh was adjudged 'obstructing the field' in a decision that has divided opinions. Many cricket fans and experts were not convinced by the decision. There was visible frustration from the player as well as the Knight Riders' dugout.

Raghuvanshi was handed a 20% fine by the BCCI after he smashed his bat on the boundary rope and threw his helmet while walking back to the dressing room.

Later in the 20th over of LSG's innings, Kartik Tyagi was allowed to continue his over despite bowling two waist-high full tosses. Although it emerged that the second illegal delivery was not adjudged to be dangerous by the umpires, and hence the Ajinkya Rahane-led team could continue bowling the youngster in the tense final over of the game.
