The controversy over Angrish Raghuvanshi's dismissal in the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL) clash between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at Lucknow's Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow during the Kolkata Knight Riders' (KKR) victory over the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in a dramatic low-scoring clash that went into a super over. The 20-year-old batter has been handed a hefty fine by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) over the incident.

The game saw a major controversy in the first innings afterRaghuvanshiwas dismissed after making nine runs in nine balls. The young batter became only the fourth batter in the IPL's history to be adjudged'obstructing the field' after a mix-up with Cameron Green. A throw from Mohammed Shami hit the batter. The third umpire determined that the player changed director and hence was given out after an appeal by LSG.

The decision divided opinions, with many claiming that the match official's view of the situation was incorrect and questioning if Raghuvanshi could have taken any other path. KKR's head coach Abhishek Nayyar was left fuming and had an animated chat with the fourth umpire.

Raghuvanshi's woes have worsened, as a day after the game, the BCCI have announced a financial penalty on him. The player has been fined 20% of his match fees by the league's governing council. The reason behind the punishment is the KKR batter's antics after the decision was confirmed.

While walking back to the dressing room, Raghuvanshi smashed his bat on the boundary rope and also threw his helmet in the dugout.

"Angkrish Raghuvanshi, batter & wicket-keeper, Kolkata Knight Riders, has been fined 20% of his match fee and has also accumulated one Demerit Point for breaching Level 1 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct for Players and Team Officials during Match No. 38 against Lucknow Super Giants. Raghuvanshi was found to have breached Article 2.2 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct, which relates to “abuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment or fixtures and fittings during a Match.” The incident occurred in the 5th over, when, after being given out for ‘obstructing the field’, Raghuvanshi struck the boundary cushion with his bat in an aggressive manner and subsequently threw his helmet into the dugout in a similar manner. Raghuvanshi admitted to the offence and accepted the Match Referee’s sanction," said a statement by the league.

Talking about the match, KKR posted a total of 155 on the board after being 31-4 at one stage, with Rinku Singh making an unbeaten knock of 83 runs in just 51 balls. LSG managed to level the scores as Mohammed Shami hit a six on the last ball.

In the Super over, LSG made just one run as Sunil Narine dismissed Nicholas Pooran and Aiden Markram within three balls. The Knight Riders chased the target on the first ball as Rinku hit the winning runs. He was also awarded the Player of the Match (POTM) award.
