Rajya Sabha MPRaghav Chadhaon Monday broke his silence on the criticism surrounding his decision to quit the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and join theBharatiya Janata Party(BJP), describing himself as the "right man" but "in the wrong party". In a video posted on Instagram, Raghav Chadha said, "For the past three days, I have been getting a lot of messages from all of you. Most of you are giving me best wishes and congratulating me, while some want to know the reasons behind my decision."
Calling himself a founding member of the party, he said his association with AAP spanned over a decade and a half. "I didn't come into politics to make my career. I became a founding member of a political party. I gave 15 years of my prime youth to this party with my blood, sweat, and a lot of hard work," he said.
However, Chadha alleged that the party had undergone a fundamental shift. "Today, this party is no longer the old party. Today, this party has a toxic work environment. You are stopped from working. You are stopped from speaking in the parliament," he said. Explaining his decision to switch sides, Chadha said he no longer felt aligned within the organisation, describing himself as "the right man, but in the wrong party".
He added that he had weighed multiple options before making the move, including stepping away from politics altogether, trying to reform the system internally, or joining another platform. "Not one, not two, not three, not four, not five, not six-seven MPs have decided to break their relationship with this political party. One person can be wrong, two people can be wrong, but not seven people can be wrong."
Rejecting allegations that his exit was driven by pressure, Chadha said, "We did not leave out of fear but because of disappointment, disenchantment, and disgust. I will continue to raise your problems with more energy and enthusiasm."
The move, however, has triggered a strong backlash online. Within a day of his announcement, Chadha reportedly lost over 1 million followers on Instagram - a figure that later swelled to nearly 2 million.
