While the US-Iran peace talks have been stalled, President Donald Trump indicated that the ongoing tensions between Washington and Tehran could be nearing an end, asserting the naval blockade has been “effective”. Meanwhile, Iran President Masoud Pezeshkian said his country won’t negotiate while the United States imposes a blockade on its ports. The Strait of Hormuz is a vital global waterway through which one-fifth of the world’s oil typically travels. Iran has restricted movement through it, letting only “friendly” nations pass since the beginning of the conflict and the US has enforced a blockade of Iranian ports.

Speaking to Fox News, US President Donald Trump said that the US naval blockade has been “unbelievably effective.” "I think the big advantage is that we've taken out their navy in its entirety... They have no air force left. They have no navy left...They're in bad shape. I mean, they're really in bad shape. And of course, we've done the blockade, and the blockade's been unbelievably effective, and that means they can't get any more money," he said.

Meanwhile, Iran President Masoud Pezeshkian said his country won’t negotiate while the United States imposes a blockade on its ports, according to Iranian media. Pezeshkian told Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif during a phone call Saturday night that the US “should first remove operational obstacles, including the blockade,” to allow a new round of negotiations, the ISNA and Tasnim news agencies reported.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi concluded a one-day trip to Pakistan’s capital Islamabad on Saturday after meeting with Pakistani military and government officials. He travelled to Oman, where he met the Sultan of Oman, Haitham bin Tariq Al Said, in Muscat. Oman’s foreign minister, Badr al Busaidi, also attended the meeting.

Notably, Iran has initially wanted to persuade Oman to support a mechanism to collect tolls from vessels passing through the strait, according to multiple reports. Oman’s response wasn’t immediately clear.

While Araghchi returned to Pakistan before beginning his Russia trip, the trip did not produce a breakthrough in efforts to relaunch negotiations after US President Donald Trump cancelled a planned trip by his envoys to Islamabad.
