WASHINGTON – Dana White was right in the middle of the chaos that struck Saturday's White House Correspondents’ Dinner.

President Donald Trump was rushed off stage after an alleged shooter was engaged by security outside the Washington Hilton Hotel in Washington. With several cabinet members positioned on the floor, many Secret Service members remained between the tables, including one where UFC CEO Dana White was sitting.

White gave his first public reaction to USA TODAY following the conclusion of the event.

"(Suddenly), it just started getting noisy," White said. "Tables getting flipped over, guys running in with guns and they were screaming ‘Get down.’ I didn’t get down. It was f*cking awesome. I literally took every minute of it in, and it was a pretty crazy, unique experience. We were sitting right in front of the table, right in front of where the president was. Nobody got tackled, but guys came in looking for shooters and they came toward out table. I thought the shooter was over by us or something.”

Details about the shooter have not been officially confirmed, though Trump said in a written statement that the individual had been "apprehended." Trump also said the dinner, which he was advised not to return to, would be rescheduled within 30 days.

Trump's appearance Saturday was his first at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner in over a decade – and his first as sitting president.
