Sanju Samson created history and broke an all-time record of Suresh Raina despite suffering a rare failure in the Chennai Super Kings' (CSK) home clash against the Gujarat Titans (GT) on Sunday (April 26) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai after being dismissed for a knock of just 11 runs in 15 balls. The 31-year-old was unable to continue his good form in the tournament and was dismissed by Kagiso Rabada as the Super Kings made a poor start and lost three wickets in the powerplay.

Samson was coming into this game on the back of a century against Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Wankhede Stadium as the Ruturaj Gaikwad-led side beat their arch-rivals by a record margin of 103 runs. That was Samson's second century in just seven games for his new franchise.

During the course of his stay in the middle, Samson completed 5000 runs in his IPL career. Over the 19 seasons of the league, the former Rajasthan Royals (RR) captain is only the 10th player to achieve the feat. Samson reached the milestone in 180 innings while taking 3555 balls.

He broke Raina's record and became the quickest Indian to reach the milestone as far as balls are concerned. Overall, he is the third quickest to reach the milestone with only Ab de Villiers and David Warner ahead of him in the elite list.
