TheBangladesh Nationalist Party(BNP) on Friday declared victory as the results and leads showed that it had secured a comfortable majority in the parliamentary elections. In a post on social media platform X, BNP declared that the party is all set to form the next government inBangladesh. Multiple media tallies in Bangladesh showed the BNP had won more than 150-175 seats in the 300-seat parliament. The Election Commission (EC) is yet to make a formal announcement.

“The Bangladesh Nationalist Party is set to form the government after winning the majority of seats,” the BNP Media Cell said in a statement.

Unofficial results on Friday show Tarique Rahman's Bangladesh Nationalist Party in a strong lead as Bangladesh continues to count votes after its landmark election on Thursday. Rahman has been unofficially declared elected from the Bogura-6 (Sadar) constituency after securing a decisive victory over his nearest rival, as per Daily Star.

According to results announced by the office of the District Returning Officer and Deputy Commissioner Md Taufiqur Rahman, tallies from 150 polling centres have been completed. The constituency has a total of 151 voting centres, including postal ballots.

The election was seen as a direct contest between the BNP and its former ally Jamaat-e-Islami, in the absence of ousted premier Sheikh Hasina's now disbanded Awami League. The BNP had earlier announced that if it wins the election, then its chairman and former premier Khaleda Zia's son Tarique Rahman would be the next prime minister of Bangladesh.

Official results have not yet been delivered by the Bangladesh Election Commission, which is expected to issue its announcement on Friday.
