A man armed with guns and knives stormed the lobby outside a high-profile journalists' dinner attended by PresidentDonald Trumpand multiple senior US leaders on Saturday night, rushing toward the ballroom before Secret Service agents swarmed him and took him into custody. The president was uninjured and was hustled away.
In a press conference after the shooting, Trump was asked if there is any indication that this shooting could have been linked to the Iran war and failed negotiations in Islamabad.
Trump replied, "I don't think so. You never know. We're going to know a lot. We have the best people in the world working on this."
He also asserted that this will not hamper his stance on the war in the Middle East.
"This is not going to deter me from winning the war in Iran. I don’t know if that (attempt) has anything to do with this (Iran war). I really don’t think so, based on what we know," he added.
Amid the stalled negotiations with Iran, Trump earlier said the Iranians had sent over a new peace proposal but that it "could have been better".
"They gave us a paper that could have been better, and interestingly, immediately when I cancelled it, within 10 minutes we got a new paper that was much better," Trump said to reporters on Saturday before boarding Air Force One to return to Washington from Florida.

Trump said he cancelled the latest rounds of negotiations with Iran because it was "a lot of travelling" and because his negotiators, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, "weren't meeting with the leader of the country."
The president said the US will "deal by telephone and they can call us anytime they want" before adding that "we have all the cards."
