US President Donald Trump was unharmed after a 31-year-old California man, identified as Cole Tomas Allen, opened fire during the White House Correspondents’ Dinner in Washington, DC. Trump, Vice President JD Vance, and First Lady Melania Trump were seated on the dais when the first shots rang out and were quickly evacuated from the venue.
As details of the incident continue to emerge, remarks made before the event by figures linked to the administration have gone viral, drawing scrutiny online. Fox News reporter Aishah Hasnie revealed that moments before the dinner began, Karoline Leavitt’s husband, Nicholas “Nick” Riccio, leaned over and told her, “You need to be very safe.” Hasnie noted that he appeared serious and scanned the room while speaking.
The comment has since sparked speculation on social media. At the same time, Leavitt herself is facing attention over her own pre-event remarks. Speaking to another Fox News journalist, she said, “There will be some shots fired tonight in the room,” a statement that quickly went viral due to its timing. However, she was referring to Trump’s expected speech style, describing it as “funny” and “entertaining,” and not the shooting that later unfolded.
Cole Tomas Allen, a 31-year-old from Torrance, California, has been identified as the suspect in the White House Correspondents’ Dinner security incident. Authorities describe him as a “sole gunman” who allegedly rushed a Secret Service checkpoint armed with a shotgun, handgun, and multiple knives, running toward the ballroom where President Trump and other high-profile figures were present.
Law enforcement exchanged gunfire with Allen before he was subdued and taken into custody. Officials said he was not struck by gunfire and was transported to a hospital. Investigators believe he may have acted as a “lone wolf,” and a probe is ongoing.
