Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday issued his first response to the shooting at US President Donald Trump's White House Correspondents' Dinner.
"Relieved to learn that President Trump, the First Lady and Vice President are safe and unharmed following the recent security incident at a Washington DC hotel. I extend my best wishes for their continued safety and well-being. Violence has no place in a democracy and must be unequivocally condemned," said PM Modi.
Trump was unharmed, and several top US officials were evacuated from the annual White House Correspondents' Dinner on Saturday night after a suspect reportedly opened fire at the high-profile event. The US Secret Service said the individual was taken into custody near the main security screening area at the Washington Hilton, where the event was taking place.
