As Trump, Vance, and a roomful of guests gathered for the White House Correspondents Dinner, shots rang out at the security perimeter in the ballroom. An agent took a bullet, and the agents subdued the attacker.
An armed 31yo man from California is now in custody after attempting to breach hotel and charge through security with what has been described by the president as multiple weapons.
Shots rang out. Body armor protected the life of the agent the suspect shot before the shooter was taken into custody. A name is already circulating on some social media accounts and news, which claims he is a Democrat and teacher from Torrence California. At the time of this writing, we do not yet know whether those reports are giving the correct name.
Trump was very much in support of completing the event as had been begun, but learned it would take hours for the building to be properly cleared before they could resume. The next best option was to reschedule the event within the next 30 days.
When asked, Trump said that with the distance, and the clatter he wasn’t even sure it was gunfire at first. He thought it may have been a tray of dishes being upended.
