Vaibhav Sooryavanshi created history with another record-breaking knock in the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL) between Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. The 15-year-old made the second century of his career in the world's richest cricket league with a knock of 103 runs in just 37 balls in a knock that included five boundaries and 12 sixes.
Sooryavanshi reached his century in just 36 balls as he gave the Royals a solid platform for a big score. The 15-year-old started the innings with four sixes in the first over from Praful Hinge. Interestingly, Hinge had dismissed the Royals opener for a golden duck in the reverse fixture in Hyderabad, but the teen prodigy managed to get his revenge. Later, he smashed Pat Cummins for the first ball he faced from the legendary pacer and found himself batting at 30 of only six balls at one stage.
Sooryavanshi's 36-ball century now means that he has the second and third fastest centuries in the IPL's history and the two quickest ones by an Indian player. Last year, he had hit a 35-ball ton against the Gujarat Titans in Jaipur. No other player in the IPL's history has even two centuries in less than 46 balls. Chris Gayle is the closest with his record 30-ball century as well as two 46-ball tons.
Sooryavanshi also has a 32-ball century in T20 cricket, which came against the United Arab Emirates (UAE) while playing for India-A in the 2025 Emerging Asia Cup in Doha. The 15-year-old is only the second player to have three tons within 36 balls in T20 cricket alongside Urvil Patel. The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) star has a century in 28, 31, and 26 balls for Gujarat in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) over the years. Meanwhile, Abhishek Sharma has two centuries within 36 balls (28 and 32) and another one in 37 balls.
The Indian star also completed his half-century in 15 balls earlier. This is the third instance of him reaching the milestone as early after scoring half-centuries in the same amount of balls against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) earlier this season. Sooryavanshi is the first player with three wickets within 15 balls in IPL history. Jake Fraser-McGurk is the only other player to achieve the rare feat multiple times.
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Breaks TeammateYashasvi Jaiswal's IPL Feat, Sets New World Record
Sooryavanshi is the youngest player to score two IPL centuries and broke his teammate Yashasvi Jaiswal's record. Meanwhile, he now has four T20 centuries and now holds the world record for that too. The teenager has left behind Tilak Varma. No player at Sooryavanshi's age had even one century in T20 cricket.
Sooryavanshi's tally of 12 sixes in today's innings is the most by an Indian player in an IPL match in history. He previously shared the record (11 sixes for RR vs GT in IPL 2025 at Jaipur) with Murli Vijay (11 sixes for CSK vs DC in IPL 2012 at Chennai).
