KL Rahul created history after scoring the sixth century of his Indian Premier League (IPL) career during Delhi Capitals' (DC) match against his former side Punjab Kings (PBKS) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Saturday (April 25). Rahul put up a massive partnership of 220 runs with Nitish Rana as the home side posted a record total of 264 on the board.
Rahul made the highest IPL score of his IPL career with an unbeaten 67-ball 152, which included 16 boundaries and nine sixes.
He reached his century in 47 balls, which is the quickest of his career. His previous fastest had come in 56 balls for Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) against Mumbai Indians (MI) in 2022.
This is Rahul's second century in the IPL after a ton against Gujarat Titans (GT) last year in Delhi. Rahul now has multiple centuries for three different teams after reaching the three-figure mark for PBKS and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) twice during his tenure with them.
The 34-year-old is the first player to score two or more centuries for three different teams in the IPL. Last year, he had become the first player to reach the three-figure mark with three franchises after his maiden ton with the Capitals. Sanju Samson and Quinton de Kock joined him in the elite list this season after scoring centuries for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Mumbai Indians (MI), respectively. Meanwhile, Rahul is one of four batters with multiple centuries for multiple IPL teams.
Players With Centuries For Three Different IPL Teams
Rahul is now also the oldest Indian wicket-keeper batter to score a century in the IPL. Overall, he is the second-oldest gloveman to reach the three-figure mark behind Adam Gilchrist.
Oldest WK Batter To Score A Century In The IPL
Rahul became the first Indian batter to put up an individual score of above 150 in the IPL and the third overall after Chris Gayle and Brendon McCullum. Abhishek Sharma (141 vs PBKS) held the record previously for the highest individual score by an Indian batter.
It is also the highest individual score by aDCbatter. He broke Rishabh Pant's (128 vs SRH in 2016) record to achieve the feat.
