A 52-year-old Syrian citizen was sentenced to four and a half years in prison for raping a 6-year-old girl in Austria and various other sexual crimes. The sentence has already been slammed as too light by the anti-immigration Freedom Party of Austria (FPÖ), which is calling for the man’s immediate deportation. The court found him guilty of rape, aggravated sexual abuse of a minor, and possession and distribution of child pornography, totaling approximately 6,000 pornographic photos and videos of children. The verdict is final.
Last July, the convicted man watched a child playing outside in the building’s courtyard and then lured her into his apartment by offering her candy. Once there, the girl was kept against her will and brutally raped.
According to the prosecutor, “He lured the girl with a lollipop and then pushed her into his apartment.“
During the trial, the Syrian, who needed an interpreter and lives on Austrian welfare payments, initially pleaded not guilty, according toKronen Zeitung. He claimed there was no rape and that his behavior was limited to “touching.” The man claimed during the trial, “She went along voluntarily because she wanted to help me with the armchairs. She played and laughed. I only touched her briefly when she was standing at the bedside.”A breakthrough came after the victim was questioned on camera. The 52-year-old then changed his story and admitted to the charges.
The child is said to have been raped next to the bed “through an act equivalent to sexual intercourse. Clear DNA traces were found in the girl’s intimate area.”
During a search of the man’s apartment, police seized between 5,500 and 6,000 files containing child abuse material. It was determined that he not only stored the material but also distributed it via instant messaging. The judge noted that the files contained horrific abuse of “children and babies.”
During the course of the investigation, police revealed that the man had also approached another girl in the park and showed her a pornographic video on his smartphone; he then proceeded to ask her if she wanted to do the same acts in the video with him. He confessed to this act during the trial as well.
According to the defense attorney, the Syrian could not be entirely blamed because he had previously taken a “potency drug,“ which allegedly left him “in an uncontrollable state“ of sexual arousal. This drug turned out to be testosterone, which the man was taking for his gym routine.
The Syrian’s four-year prison sentence is not enough, according to the Austrian Freedom Party’s (FPÖ) Secretary-General Michael Schnedlitz, who calls for a zero-tolerance policy against imported crime and deportation of the Syrian.
