BOWSER: “So, today we are announcing legislation we’ve been working on for some time, Protecting Victims Act of 2026. This legislation is about making sure that survivors are protected and that their safety and privacy are respected. It also is about making sure that when someone needs help, they can trust that help will be there, and that when someone breaks the law, there are clear and consistent consequences. It builds on the work that we have done in my administration, what we moved in 2019, the Sexual Assault Victims’ Rights Act, also referred to as SAVRA, of 2019, 2022, and 2023. We also opened two new domestic violence shelters, including the District’s first 24/7 domestic violence shelter.”
